mexican bling bottles for table decorations!!! WIP

These are for a bridal shower at my school, her wedding has a Mexican theme so I thought these were a good idea. They will hold flowers made with tissue paper. We made a few but decided they are too big so we will try some smaller ones tomorrow. Just brush on the glue by sections and add glitter and there's the bling! Everybody loved these and they took us out of a bind because we had no clue on what to use for the tables centerpieces; and the shower is tomorrow! Its not hard, it is messy and requires lots of patience but its cheap and if you get organized it doesn't take too long. Hope you like!!!

and the Stylist Blogger award goes to....

Thanks Darlene from A Dancing Mango (http://darlenepringle.blogspot.com/) for this special award.  I am honored to receive this delectable award!!
It took me a while to get to this post again and comply with the requirements after receiving it... In receiving this award I must say ten things about myself that some of you don't know. So here it goes....

1. Over 30 years ago, my parents immigrated from Mexico to "the land of opportunity", something that I am thankful for, thanks to that we have had a good life, all my brothers and sisters are hard working professionals, we all have made a good living... my parents are both American citizens now and my father never stopped working not since the day that he arrived here, even after retirement. From him, I have learned to work hard, it always pays off...
2. I am proud of my Mexican culture, I love everything Frida, Day of the Dead and Pancho Villa... Viva la revolucion!
3. I am a rock and roll kinda chic... I love music, classic rock, indie and some punk and underground stuff.
4. I am thinking of getting my Art certification this summer to teach Art in Highschool... but I'm still hesitant.. I love my babies...
5. I secretly would like to learn to play an instrument... the guitar and take singing lessons.
6. It's a secret because my husband is a musician (as a hobby, he has a 9-5) he plays the guitar and sings in a band, and at some point I have made fun of him for not ever giving up his rock and roll dreams....
7. I am very non-traditional.
8. I have a 16 year old who wants to get a nose piercing... what? as non traditional as I am I still said no, why? don't know... still pondering on it.
9. I am starting my Masters  of Fine Arts program in the spring with an Art History emphasis.
10. I want to start a business one day soon... t shirt design... I think.
11. I hate cooking... oh I only needed 10, but this one is important... I REALLY HATE cooking!

Now.... I nominate the following Seven blogs for this great Stylish award. These blogs are all wonderful and interesting and have much to share with you.

paper doll pattern ***

visiting throughout the OWOH i discovered there are many teachers blogging. i wanted to share some ideas for classroom decorations. these is a little something i make out of construction paper to decorate my bulletin boards. i change them for the season, i dress them or make new one based on the same pattern, once laminated, they can last a long time. i draw the mouth and add wiggly eyes, they turn out super cute and they save me lots of $$$ on decorations for the classroom. once you have the basic pattern you can get super creative and change them up however you want.  they are super easy and fun to make and i have gotten tons of compliments on them. if you scroll down to the end you can click on the pattern and print it. enjoy!!!!

I love to paint and draw, make crafts... etc. I have been a Graphic Designer for almost 10 years but I currently only do freelance work, the 9 to 5 got very stressful and after my second child I decided to try something new. I now teach Pre-Kindergarten in a public school and I love all the creativity and energy that my little ones instill in me every day. I also love my summers off which give me all the time in the world to do what I love the most: ART and spend time with my own kids.

I recently got into doll making because I had a friend who made them, and I could not believe how such amazing creations could be made from scratch. So I gave it a try... and here I am...

No more wasted time! sketches on ideas made while waiting....

These are some sketches that I drew, some ideas for dolls, or maybe bigger folk-type paintings, not sure yet.... what to do. what to do? I only sketch because I found out that I wait and wait around all the time, it seems like my life is wasted on waiting; waiting in my daughters piano class, the dentist appt, the doctors appt. the taking my mom shopping.... so I resolved this dilemma. I am making use of that wasted time and now I carry my totebag with all kinds of crap... including my sketch book and prisma colors.... problem solved... no more wasted time on facebook while waiting lol!!! Now for my other problem.... bringing these sketches to life... l

girl and octopus~mixed media painting

it has been a while since I painted anything. I was especially disappointed after I lost all my paintings during a move. here's something I started and almost finished when my lights went out during a storm. it's amazing how much you can achieve without little distractions such as t.v. and the internet and of course the kids ... lol.
this is what it reads:

"I bear my burden proudly for all to see, to conquer prejudice and ignorance and hate with knowledge and sincerity and love. Whenever threatened by a hostile presence, emit a thick cloud of love like an octopus squirts out ink..."
 William S. Burroughs

on a side note:::
I hope you all had a great year and lets look forward to the new one, may we all learn a lot more and create a lot more this upcoming year. I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors and happy creating!

Forgot to mention, I won a doll from Pattee from Odd-Dolls!!! Could I be so lucky!!!

YESSS!!!! Thank you Patee!!! What a sweet Christmas gift it is! I am checking the mail everyday!!!

another one just in time for the new year~

So I finished this one faster than the others, I actually made this one in 4 days!!!! That's a record for me! I was making her for a gift exchange that I had for Christmas, but I started her the day before so I ended up having to wait because the clay was not dry by Christmas morning. Nevertheless, I am very happy that I got to keep her for my collection, wouldn't want her in the wrong hands. Not everyone can appreciate art, right? or at least my art, maybe??? Anyhow, I was very happy about how she turned out.

I guess I should try to sell some of these, but I have grown attached to them all and can't bare to part with them... one day.... maybe...

I did learn a few things while making her:

Make glitter the final step!!!
Do not crackle too much, once you add the antiquing, it will show a LOT more!!!
The antiquing paint/medium whatever it's called, use it sparingly, she doesn't need to look like she was dragged through the mud afterwards, LOL!

Here she is: Golden Fairy (need to find her a name!)

Musical notes on her wings... not my idea of course... I think I saw this on one of Nancyes Art Dolls.

new doll... lazy suzie!

because she has a lazy eye, lol, wasnt meant to be, but it is... her clothes are hand sewn, much easier than with a sewing machine! liked the look and might stick to it. Mohair for hair under two styrofoam balls.

yessssssssssss, finally a completed doll!!!!

sewing her dress was my biggest fear! thus, Shelle (the doll) sat there. on a corner shelf, dressless (that's not a word, huh) ... so it took me almost a month to give her an outfit. I just didn't know how to. I originally had in mind a green dress, she was also suppose to have red hair. Somehow along the way everything changed and this is how she turned out. I named her after my daughter Michelle, hence the green dress and red hair idea... but like I said, that didn't work out.

I started making this doll because my husband had written a song for her many years ago, when she was much younger, it was called Michelle and her red balloon (he is a musician). So there my idea was born. anyway, I guess I deviated from the main subject.... the dress... so she was there in mere panties and tank, so sad... (hey, at least I gave her panties)  I just could not get myself to making her a dress, some pants anything! I just hate sewing! Not only that, I think I am not too great at it. when it comes to that, I draw a blank. so, today I made up my mind. I went for it. not having an idea of what I was going to do, I just pulled out stuff from the drawers and got to it. and so here she is, dress and all... I wonder what she is concerned about now!!!??? she has this look on her face... LOL!
